Osu!

Recently, I received an email from Australia regarding a former student who had found his way back to Enshin Karate. Some years ago, he had trained at the Tokyo Enshin branch but then moved away to Australia. At the time there was no Enshin dojo in Australia, so he trained in a different style. About a month ago, through a martial arts magazine, he found Sensei Dino Kardas' new Enshin dojo in Melbourne. Today, this student drives an hour and a half to practice Enshin Karate in Melbourne with Sensei Dino.

I was very happy when I heard this, because this student's devotion and loyalty reveal an important truth about Enshin Karate. It is a truth that goes beyond technique and strategy to a sense of spirit that I believe is an important part of karate training. Everyone has a different reason for choosing a particular style of martial arts. However, what I hope makes Enshin Karate different is a deeper connection to the training and those around you, like a family. In general, any style can teach you how to kick and punch. It is my hope that Enshin teaches intelligent fighting and, more importantly, how to be a better person. As a family, Enshin members grow together by being aware of the needs and abilities of those they train with. By doing this, we all grow as fighters and as human beings.
